Koumans zijn hele leven niet-roker is geweest. |
The cause of death was lung cancer, although Dr. Koumans was a was a life-long non smoker. |
| Dr. Koumans is 28 oktober 1929 geboren in Batavia (nu
Jakarta), in het voormalig Nederlands Indië en was de laatste 40 jaar
inwoner van Arlington. |
A resident of Arlington for 40 years, Dr. Koumans was born in Batavia (now Jakarta), in the former Dutch East Indies on October 28, 1929. |

He and Jeltje moved to Boston in 1961, and settled in Arlington in 1965. Following a psychiatry residency at Boston City Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Koumans joined the staff at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology medical clinic, where he worked for 25 years. He also taught psychiatry at Mass General and maintained a private practice. |

After retiring, Dr. Koumans earned a Masters in Theological Studies at the Westin School for Theology in Cambridge, took up horseback riding and wrote The Rewards of Parenting: Growing Along With Your Child, the culmination of years of study on the contributions of children to the psychological development of their parents. |
